Bonjour, mon nom est Jerica Lowman and I don’t speak French. I am a graduate of San Jose State’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication. This blog (hopefully) will be an extension of the column I had for the Spartan Daily named “Phenomenally Feminist.” I wrote the column for three semesters and I have decided it needed a come back.
I was born and raised and currently reside in San Jose, California. As of now, I am working a year long contract for Apple, but have definitely not stopped looking for work.
My blog mostly focuses on social issues through the eye of an intersectional, black feminist, which means I understand that “oppressive institutions (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, classism, etc.) are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another.” For example, my identity as a bisexual, biracial black woman who grew up in foster care is important to who I am today. Throughout the course of the column I wrote, I analyzed situations or wrote personal essays based on current events. Like my column, my goal now is to always be critical and have well thought-out research. So, if you’re anti-feminist, racist, or think race doesn’t matter, please leave. This definitely isn’t a place a for those who don’t want to learn.
